The Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, primarily focuses on intelligent science and technology. It is the first institute within the Chinese Academy of Sciences to establish an "Artificial Intelligence Innovation Research Institute." The institute currently houses two national key laboratories: Pattern Recognition and Complex System Management and Control. It boasts 3 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 member of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, and 14 IEEE Fellows, as well as 16 recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund. The Institute of Automation has long been committed to research in "intelligent science and technology," developing distinct disciplinary advantages and technological characteristics in areas such as complex chips. It is the overall leading unit for the national project on brain-like intelligence and was one of the earliest national research institutions to conduct research in this area. It is also the first domestic institution to undertake the "Artificial Intelligence College" initiative.
